“About 10 years ago, I had a job interview lined up and no suit to wear. No money to buy one either.

In a panic, I googled ‘free suits for jobseekers’ and found Suited & Booted. I emailed Maria on the Wednesday, had my appointment on the Thursday, and walked into my interview on the Friday. I got the job.

But something else happened that day. I come from a long line of tailors and seamstresses – it’s in the blood, though it was never something I wanted to pursue. Being surrounded by all those suits, something clicked. A thought that wouldn’t go away.

Two years later, I resurrected the family tailoring brand. Now I make suits for the rich and famous.

I’ve never forgotten what Suited & Booted did for me. Not just the suit – the confidence that came with it. Walking into that interview feeling like I belonged there. That’s what they give people, and it’s worth more than most realise.

So now I volunteer with them. I come in and style clients, help them find the right fit, make sure they walk out feeling the way I did. It’s the only thank you that felt right. You can’t really repay that kind of kindness – you just pass it on.
